What's an IPO?

An IPO — Initial Public Offering — is the moment a company sells shares to the public for the first time. Buy in and you own a small part of the company, and its growth.

You're buying ownership

Each share is a stake in the business. If the company does well, your holding can grow with it.

It's a limited window

An IPO is open for a set period. Once it closes, shares trade on the market at whatever price it sets.

There's a minimum entry

Every offer sets a smallest amount you can buy. For the Dangote IPO through Rex, that's ₦5,250.

Value isn't guaranteed

Share prices can rise or fall. Only invest money you can leave in place for the long term.

How Rex helps

Getting into an IPO the traditional way in Nigeria usually means opening a separate stockbroker account, going through fresh KYC, and waiting on approval, on top of everything you did to open your bank account in the first place. Through Rex, it's the same account and the same website you already use. No second account, no second login.

How to get started

Getting in takes a few minutes. The exact screens may look slightly different by the time this goes live, but here's the shape of it.

01

Open the IPO on the Rex website

Go to the Dangote Refinery offer from your Rex dashboard or from this page.

02

Choose how many shares

Enter how many shares you want, starting from the minimum of 10 (₦5,250).

03

Confirm and fund

Review the amount, confirm from your Rex balance, and you're done, no separate stockbroker form.

04

Wait for allotment

After the subscription window closes, shares are allotted to successful applicants before the company lists on the exchange.

Worth knowing

An IPO is an investment, not a savings product. The value of shares can go up or down, and buying in means taking on that risk in exchange for the potential upside. This page will be confirmed against the final SEC-approved offer documents before publishing, and updated if any terms change before the subscription window closes.
